Nachschulung (post-licence retraining)
Also known as: Aftermath seminar · ASF · Driver retraining
A Nachschulung is a post-licence training course in Germany — either ordered by the authority or voluntary. Examples include the ASF aftermath seminar for novice drivers and traffic-psychology counselling.
Nachschulung is an umbrella term for ordered or voluntary post-licence training:
- Aftermath seminar for novice drivers (ASF) under § 2b StVG — ordered after one A-violation or two B-violations during the Probezeit. Four sessions of 135 minutes each, plus an observation drive.
- Traffic-psychology counselling — voluntary, often part of MPU preparation.
- Points-based aftermath seminar under the Driver Suitability Register (Fahreignungsregister).
- Other training units — e.g. safety training run by the Verkehrswacht road-safety body.
Once successfully completed, the provider confirms attendance to the licensing authority. A Nachschulung does not replace an MPU, but completion can be cited positively in an MPU report. Repeated triggers — for example several Probezeit violations in sequence — may lead to additional measures, including licence revocation.
